Meet the Finalists for the 2026 Blackline Safety Impact Awards

Blackline Safety, Leader in Connected Gas Detection & Lone Worker Safety October 30, 2026

Blackline Exchange LockUp-1-1-1

Celebrating the people and teams finding new ways to give every worker the confidence to get the job done and get home safe.

Great safety cultures don't happen by accident. They're built by people who challenge the status quo, find better ways to engage and protect their teams, and make safety a priority every day.

That's what the Blackline Safety Impact Awards are all about.

We're excited to announce this year's finalists for the Safety Team of the Year and Field Innovation awards. From creative uses of technology to programs that build trust and strengthen safety culture, these organizations are showing what's possible when safety is a top priority.

Safety Team of the Year

This award recognizes teams that have demonstrated exceptional commitment to safety, whether through a program rollout, incident reduction, or culture change. These are the organizations that don’t just talk about making work safer, but who live it every day — our shining examples.

Cenovus Energy

Supporting six different organizations, Cenovus Energy's safety team has made it their mission to ensure workers understand, trust, and feel confident using their safety technology. By testing new approaches, listening to feedback, and continually improving processes, they're building a culture where safety is simpler, more consistent, and more effective for everyone.

Diamondback Energy

Responsible for worker safety across a vast network of remote operations in Texas, Diamondback Energy's safety team puts real-time data to work. By continually expanding its monitoring capabilities and using gas exposure reports to inform weekly safety meetings, the team is identifying risks earlier and making better-informed safety decisions.

New Bedford Fire Department

From major public events to hazardous materials emergencies, New Bedford Fire Department's team is helping strengthen emergency response readiness across Massachusetts. Through specialized training, multi-agency coordination, and preparation for major events, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup, they're advancing safety practices, preparing for the unexpected, and ensuring people can safely enjoy once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

NiSource

A team of just four people supports nearly 3,000 Backline Safety devices across six states. But they do much more than manage technology. By consistently and carefully reviewing incidents, analyzing data, and continuously refining emergency response protocols, NiSource's team is making sure lessons learned turn into meaningful improvements that keep workers safer.

TC Energy

TC Energy's TRAC2 team plays a vital role in keeping workers safe around the clock. Through rigorous training, proactive incident response, and innovative uses of safety data, the team continually looks for ways to reduce risk and build worker confidence. Their commitment to continuous improvement helps make safety a lived value across the organization.

Making confined entries as safe as possible—for power, water and wastewater, and natural gas workers—means understanding what hazards might be present before entry, monitoring workers and their data during the entry, and reviewing the work after to improve processes in the future. Tapping into leading indicators before confined space entries occur is one way to lower the risks associated with this hazardous environment.

Field Innovation Award

This award celebrates organizations finding inventive ways to put safety technology to work, solving real challenges and making operations safer, smarter, and more efficient.

Amazon GFC

Walk-in freezers present a unique lone-worker challenge for Amazon’s grocery fulfillment center: thick walls can block cellular signals, making communication difficult. Amazon GFC found an inventive solution using Blackline's G7x satellite-connected safety devices and G7 Bridge technology to maintain connectivity inside freezers, combined with timed worker check-ins to add another layer of protection.

Diamondback Energy

When well pads are spread across hundreds of miles, even routine equipment checks can mean hours on the road and potential gas exposures. Diamondback Energy is using EXO area monitors with automated bump testing and calibration to continuously monitor remote sites without unnecessary visits, reducing worker exposure, travel time, and maintenance costs.

ExxonMobil

ExxonMobil takes full advantage of Blackline Analytics to analyze their field data to make corrective changes where needed and alert their teams to hazardous areas. They are reducing the need for workers to travel to remote locations or climb tanks for routine device maintenance by letting EXO area monitors do the job of continuous monitoring.

K9 Leak Hunters

The hero of K9 leak hunters is Nala, a gas leak-hunting German Shepherd with a Blackline gas detector attached to her harness. Together with her handler, Jay Stephens, Nala is using her remarkable sense of smell combined with connected gas detection and GPS-tagged data to locate, verify, and document pipeline leaks. A clever combination of nature and technology.

Yara Finland

After an EXO area monitor detected an unexpected ammonia leak at its Siilinjärvi plant, Yara Finland took gas detection to new heights. By deploying a wearable gas detector on a drone, the team could investigate potential hazards from the air, collecting real-time gas readings and location data without putting workers in harm's way.

Congratulations to all our finalists!

Winners will be announced at the Blackline Safety Impact Awards on November 4, 2026, during the Blackline Exchange customer conference in Las Vegas.
